an introduction
2025-03-01
hi everyone! this is the first blog post of the furry computer club, just starting up now in naarm, so called melbourne, australia.
i want to make it clear that whilst we've branded it as 'furry', the idea is not to have it be a fandom space first and foremost. with the internet traffic of today becoming more and more restricted to a few giant companies, its important to set cultural boundaries.
this isn't a furry space, it's a hackerspace and computer club for everyone to get into, with the flutter of furry aesthetics on top. why?
furries were always the edge of what was deemed acceptable in internet culture, and i personally found the idea of making it an explicit call to get back to the small web, get hacking and into projects for the love of technology and not for the love of profit sync well with this being a filter for corporate technology culture.
going forward, we'll be using both mastodon and this site as the primary places to update you on the ongoings of the club. we will use instagram in order to get larger coverage, but this will not be as accurate.
till then, I will see you all at the last thursday of this month in March!
